yaa-banee ʾaadama qad ʾanzalnaa ʿalaykum libaasan yuwaaree sawʾaatikum wa-reeshan wa-libaasu t-taqwaa dhaalika khayrun dhaalika min ʾaayaati llaahi laʿallahum yadhdhakkaroona

“”Oh children of Adam, certainly we have sent down clothes and adornments to cover your shame, but the clothing of righteousness is best, that is a sign from The Divine so that you remember”.” (Q7: 26)

qul li-l-muʾmineena yaghuḍḍoo min ʾabṣaarihim wa-yaḥfaẓoo furoojahum dhaalika ʾazkaa lahum ʾinna llaaha khabeerun bi-maa yaṣnaʿoon, wa qul lilmu’minaati yaghdudna min absaarihinna wa yahfazna furoojahunna wa laa yubdeena zeenatahunna illaa maa zahara minhaa walyadribna bikhumurihinna ‘alaa juyoobihinna wa laa yubdeena zeenatahunna…

“Tell the masculine people of faith/trust to lower their gaze and guard their chastity, that is purer for them. Indeed The Divine knows what they do. And say to the feminine people of faith/trust to lower their gaze and and keep their private parts safe and not display their adornment except for what is apparent of it, and may they draw their scarves over their cleavages; and not show their adornment (Q 24: 30-31)

wa-laa yubdeena zeenatahunna ʾillaa li-buʿoolatihinna ʾaw ʾaabaaʾihinna ʾaw ʾaabaaʾi buʿoolatihinna ʾaw ʾabnaaʾihinna ʾaw ʾabnaaʾi buʿoolatihinna ʾaw ʾikhwaanihinna ʾaw banee ʾikhwaanihinna ʾaw banee ʾakhawaatihinna ʾaw nisaaʾihinna ʾaw maa malakat ʾaymaanuhunna ʾawi t-taabiʿeena ghayri ʾulee l-ʾirbati mina r-rijaali ʾawi ṭ-ṭifli lladheena lam yaẓharoo ʿalaa ʿawraati n-nisaaʾi wa-laa yaḍribna bi-ʾarjulihinna li-yuʿlama maa yukhfeena min zeenatihinna wa-tooboo ʾilaa llaahi jameeʿan ʾayyuha l-muʾminoona laʿallakum tufliḥoona

“…and not display their charms except to their husbands, fathers, fathers in law, sons, step-sons, brothers, brothers’ sons, sisters’ sons, or their women, or their servants, or men without sexual desire, or children uninitiated to women’s parts. And let them not thump their feet to make known their hidden ornaments. And turn to The Divine all together, Oh feminine people of faith, so that you may be successful.” (Q24:31)
